Barnesville woman accused of swinging shovel at cop
A 26-year-old Barnesville, Minn., woman is accused of kicking, biting and swinging a shovel at police officers on Friday, according to charges filed Monday in Clay County District Court.
Authorities said Barnesville police received a call at 8:06 p.m. complaining of a woman banging on something in a residential yard.
An officer who responded to the call alleges he found Dorie Rothberg inside a garage. When asked if she was supposed to be there, she swung a shovel at him, police say in court records.
A Clay County deputy arrived and was kicked as he tried to secure her, and she bit the officer who had first responded, according to court records.
Rothberg is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of fourth-degree assault, obstructing arrest and giving an officer a false name. Bail was set at $5,000 in an initial appearance in court on Monday.
