Battle of the Books event
The Detroit Lakes elementary schools held the 2nd annual Battle of the Books on March 11.
The big event is open to any students in 3rd-5th grade for teams of two to three kids. A list of books was given about a month prior to the Battle day, and teams read as many books from the list as they could.
On March 9, each elementary held a mini-battle in a game show format. A question was posed and any team with the correct answer scores a point. At the end of the time period, points are tallied to determine the top three qualifying teams. These teams move on to the final Battle, which was held at the Public Library. This is where each elementary school team "battles" the other school.
The winners in each grade won a pool party, donated by the DLCCC, and ice cream, donated by DQ.
The Battle of the Books event doubled in size from last year, with approximately 60 kids from both schools participating in the final battle. Approximately 160 from Rossman and approximately 80 kids from Roosevelt participated in the mini battle.
