Becker County Fair
It's the Becker County Fair's 199th year, and the celebration will be as fun as ever, scheduled for July 25-28 at the fairgrounds in Detroit Lakes.
With an estimated 25,000-30,000 fair-goers each year, the fairgrounds are packed for four days with food vendors, rides for the kids, exhibitors, animals galore, baked goods, princesses to crown, music acts, flower exhibits and much more.
The Department of Natural Resources building is a popular one each year, too. There are minnow races, live animals and fish from throughout the county to look at and other displays and literature from various other government entities like the Becker County Natural Resources, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, DNR Forestry, DNR Wildlife, DNR Fisheries, Pelican River Watershed District, North Country Trail and Becker County Soil and Water -- which has tested water samples the public brings in the past.
Grandstand events for this year include the Miss and Jr. Miss Becker County Fair Pageant and demolition derbies.
On Thursday, July 26, is the Miss Becker County Fair Pageant. On Friday, July 27, is the Stock Car and Compact Pickup/Minivan demo derbies. On Saturday, July 28, is the Pick-up and 4-Cylinder Demo Derby.
The Big Tent will feature free music and performances by Laura Ernst, Tim Eggebraaten, Greg Hager and hypnotist Gary Tyson.
Thursday is Senior Day, and Friday is Kids Day, which includes games for all ages and comedic magician Gary Wick.
The 4-H and FFA events will include a cat and pet show, poultry judging, rabbit judging, livestock judging, sheep show, swine show, beef show, horse show, goat show, dairy show, barnyard games, and a fashion revue.
