Bemidji Walmart stabbing not shopping related

The Twitterverse is all a-tweet about a Black Friday stabbing at Wal-Mart in Bemidji. The rumor is partially true.

A 28-year-old man was stabbed at Wal-Mart, but it was on Thursday around 11 a.m. He phoned the Pioneer after seeing an earlier version of the story online Friday.

“The incident is not Black Friday related and is currently under investigation,” said Bemidji Police Sgt. Dave Markert.

Following the man’s call to the Pioneer, Markert confirmed a 28-year-old victim was stabbed. Earlier Markert was able to confirm that there was an “altercation” between two adult men Thursday morning inside the Wal-Mart store in Bemidji. However, claims that a man was stabbed over a television on Black Friday morning are false. The incident report did not state that the argument involved merchandise.

The man said it was not over a television, but over a Facebook post.

“Social media sucks,” the man said.

The victim was transported to the emergency room where he received stitches and was released, he said.

Markert said no further details can be released from the police department as it could hinder the investigation.

The Pioneer will provide a follow-up article once the investigation is complete.
