Benedict woman dies in ATV crash
A Benedict woman has died as the results of injuries suffered in an ATV crash Saturday.
According to the Hubbard County Sheriff's department, Jessica Christopherson, 31, was a passenger on an ATV that collided with a tree on East Steamboat Forest Road Saturday just after 6 p.m.
The Sheriff's Department said the driver, 30-year-old Chad Tabaka, lost control of the vehicle three miles south of Benedict, left the roadway and collided with the tree. The 2004 Honda TRX650R ATV, was northbound when the accident occurred.
Christopherson was pronounced dead at the scene. Tabaka was trans-ported to North Country Region Hospital in Bemidji with injuries, including a broken scapula and possible fractured vertebra. Both Tabaka and Christopherson were wearing helmets, the Sheriff's Department said.
An autopsy will be performed on Christopherson at Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
"It is unknown if alcohol and/or weather conditions were contributing factors in this accident," Sheriff Frank Homer said. The accident remains under investigation by the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol.
