Bernice Vanderpoel, 94, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Bernice, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Versteeg) Bouma, was born on April 6, 1919 in Chandler. She was raised and attended rural school in Hancock.
On June 17, 1937, Bernice married Glenn Vanderpoel in Glenwood. They farmed in the Detroit Lakes area until retiring in 1971.
Bernice enjoyed gardening and flowers. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family.
Surviving Bernice are her daughter, Darlene (Maynard) Hanson of Detroit Lakes; granddaughter, Twyla (Glen) Bucholz of Detroit Lakes; two great grandchildren, Tonya Strom and Tyler Sather; two great-great grandchildren, Peter and Jackson Strom; one sister, Dorothy Burns of Hancock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bernice in death were her parents; husband, Glenn; and siblings, Francis Ras and Raymond Bouma.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 in Berean Baptist Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour before services. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
