Former Vergas resident Bertha Emilia Moltzan, 93, of Perham, passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at Thomas House in Perham.
Bertha was born the daughter of Rudolph and Minnie (Kratzke) Wischnak on January 20, 1917 near Vergas. Bertha was baptized and confirmed her faith at St Paul's Lutheran Church, Loon Lake. She attended district 149 country school.
On September 10, 1936 Bertha was united in marriage to Henry Moltzan at St. Paul's Lutheran Loon Lake Church. Bertha and Henry farmed for 32 years, built and operated Birch Shores Resort on Leek Lake for 11 years, then built a retirement home nearby. Henry died December 23, 1993.
Bertha loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting and mowing her lawn.
Surviving Bertha are her sons, Henry (Paulette) Moltzan of Vergas and Gerald (Debi) Moltzan of Frazee; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild; sisters Alvina Hunstiger of Vergas and Adeline Sherbrooke of Pelican Rapids; son-in-law Louie Sazama; as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Henry; daughter, Shirley Sazama; sister, Anna Manke; and brother, Ernest Wischnak.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas, with a prayer service to be held at 4 p.m.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Loon Lake, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment will be made in the Vergas Village Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Furey Funeral Home of Frazee.
