Former Pipestone resident Betty L. Daniels, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes.
Betty was born the daughter of John and Myrtle (Waters) McCorkell on Sept. 6, 1930 in Redwood County, Minne. She received her teaching degree from Mankato State University. Betty held her first teaching position in Wanda, Minn., and also taught in Filer, Idaho and Aberdeen, Wash. She then began her teaching career in Pipestone, where she met her future husband.
Betty married Edwin D. Daniels at Redwood Falls, Minn. They made their home in Pipestone, where Betty continued to teach for 24 years, as a third grade teacher and later as a Title I aide for the sixth grade.
Betty moved to Detroit Lakes in 2007 to be closer to her family. She had resided at the Marigold Apartments for the last year.
Surviving Betty are her son, Dan (Sandy) Daniels of Detroit Lakes; two grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Gail) McCorkell of Redwood Falls and Mick (Diane) McCorkell of Kenyon, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents; husband, Edwin (1990); daughter, Michelle Daniels; and two sisters, Joyce Alberts and Phyllis Hummel.
