Former Jamestown, N.D. resident Betty June Heyer, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.
Betty Green was born the daughter of Charles Everet and Nellie Irene (Grounds) Green on October 2, 1922 in Shidler, Okla. She attended school in various areas of Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. On February 14, 1946 Betty married Franklin O. Heyer in Lane, S.D. They made their home in Huron, S.D., later moving to Wahpeton, N.D. and to Jamestown in 1957.
Betty worked part-time at Baker Boy Bake Shop, Dee Jays clothing store and later at Feinsteins clothing, all in Jamestown. After she retired, Betty and Frank were "snowbirds," and traveled all over the south every winter with their camper. Frank died in 1994. In 2003 Betty moved to Detroit Lakes and resided at the Lincoln Park Senior and Assisted Living Center until October 2009, when she into the Oak Crossing Nursing Home.
Betty was very family oriented and involved with her children and their activities. She volunteered as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, as well as with the PTA and church, LWML and circle, and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was involved in the Jamestown Hospital Auxiliary, working in their gift shop; sat at the Mammogram desk, and rocked many sick babies in Pediatrics. Betty enjoyed her Whist Club, to which she belonged for over 40 years. She loved kids and her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her grand-dogs.
Surviving Betty are her four children, Patricia (Robert) Cadreau of Park Rapids, David (Barbara) Heyer of Detroit Lakes, Diana (Dick) Siek of Frazee and James (Sherry) Heyer of Fargo; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Preceding Betty in death were her husband; her parents; one grandson, Kelly James Heyer; and three sisters, Doris, Bonnie and Mary Ann.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 7 at the Eddy Funeral Home, 621 1st Ave. So., Jamestown.
Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Friday, January 8 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, with Pastor Wade Dutton officiating. Burial will be at Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown.
A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 12 at Oak Crossing Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lakes.
