Betty J. Klomstad, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Betty Jane Klomstad was born to Harry and Edna (Peck) Britton on May 18, 1923 in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught school in Crookston.
On June 29, 1947 she was united in marriage to Donald W. Klomstad in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Minneapolis. Over the years they also lived in Baltimore, Md., Brussels, Belgium, and New Canaan, Conn.
In 1977 they moved back to Detroit Lakes, to reside on Big Floyd Lake. Betty worked as a secretary for the Benshoof Law Firm in Detroit Lakes for three years.
Betty enjoyed dancing, playing cards, quilting, camping and golfing. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and entertaining at the lake.
Surviving Betty are two sons, Richard (Cleone Koester) Klomstad of Ft. Mills, S.C., and William Klomstad of West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kristen Roulette, Derek Klomstad, Brekken Klomstad and Britton Klomstad; two great grandchildren, William and Nicholas Roulette; one sister, Peggy (Lyle) Leegard of Detroit Lakes; and one sister-in-law, Doris Britton of Detroit Lakes.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Donald Klomstad; one brother, Donald Britton; one sister, Marjorie Leegard; and one brother-in-law, Jerome Leegard.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 in West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment was in Richwood Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
