Betty J. Wischnak, 74, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Cottages of Ecumen in Detroit Lakes.

Betty Jeanette Wischnak was born to Morgan and Adeline Heimark on January 23, 1939 in Cormorant Township. She spent her early years attending country school and helping on the family farm.

On August 2, 1960 she was united in marriage to Daryl Wischnak. They made their home on a farm in rural Vergas. Betty later moved to Detroit Lakes, living on Munson Lake, which she enjoyed very much. She worked at Snappy's in Detroit Lakes for 15 years, retiring in 2004. She later moved to Moorhead for a few years before moving back to Detroit Lakes.

Betty was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir very much. She also enjoyed gardening, bingo, and spending time with friends and family. She was also known to be an excellent cook and baker.

Surviving Betty are her three daughters, Debbie Peterson of Queen Creek, Ariz., Diane (Dale) Ladwig of Frazee and Denise Bunnis of Fargo; four sons, Brian (Kathy) Wischnak of Rock Island, Ill., Bruce (Shauna) Wischnak of Fargo, Billy Wischnak, of Moorhead and Bradley (Nicole) Wischnak of Fargo; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five brothers, Ardean (Loretta) Heimark of California, Melvin (Annette) Heimark of Moorhead, Morgan (Jennifer) Heimark of Sabin, Lawrence Heimark of Barnesville and Harvey Heimark of Hunter, N.D.; four sisters, Joyce Priem of Fergus Falls, Delores Severtson of Fargo, Sandra Abrahams of Vero Beach, Fla., and Anita (Larry) Ray of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Harold and Roger Heimark; two sisters, Marjorie Schaeffer and Olive Heimark; two grandchildren, Tabatha Janssen and John Bunnis; and one nephew, Kip Heimark.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 15 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.

Interment will be in Lake Ida Cemetery, Cormorant Township.
