Beverly L. Blackburn, 73, of Park Rapids, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids.
Beverly Lou Rider was born to parents Bill and Alice (Brekke) Rider on April 30, 1937 at Sac City, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Park Rapids, where she graduated in 1955. Following high school she worked at the Ringer factory in Park Rapids.
From the late 1960s until the mid 1970s Beverly owned and operated the Dixie Drive Inn in Park Rapids. After the sale of the Dixie Drive Inn she went to work at Dahl's Bakery, decorating cakes and working in the bakery. After the bakery she went to work at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids as the dietary manager. She retired in 1998.
Bev enjoyed flowers, researching her ancestry, doll collecting, and crocheting hats and mittens for the kids. She also enjoyed spending winters in Texas.
Surviving Bev are her daughter, Sherry (Joe) Safratowich of Park Rapids; her son, Chuck, (Marcy) Blackburn of Detroit Lakes; her sister, Lois Nordman (Lefty Anderson) of Park Rapids; her special friend and soulmate of 30 years, Mickey Rugroden of Park Rapids; her brother-in-law, John Plumley of Nevis, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Bev's parents and sister, Donna Plumley, preceded her in death.
Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel of Park Rapids, with Pastor Richard Jorgensen officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services, and a reception following, both at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
