Beverly S. Wething, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Brenda North officiating. Interment will be in the United Methodist Memorial Garden.

Friends may call between 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Beverly Ruth Wething was born to F. Vere and Blanche (Kenyon) Spears on August 16, 1927 in Anoka County, Minn. She was raised and educated in North East Minneapolis and is a 1945 graduate of Edison High School.

Following high school, Bev worked for the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She had also taken voice lessons at the McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis.

Bev was united in marriage to Duane Wething, September 16, 1950 in Minneapolis. They lived in Waseca, Minn., and Bev continued working for the U of M. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1952 and later purchased the chiropractic practice of Dr. W.B. Whittenberg. She served as the office manager for the practice for 14 years.

Bev was instrumental in establishing the Detroit Lakes Community Choir, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, past president of the Minnesota Chiropractic Auxiliary, past chairwoman of the Becker County Republican Party, sang with the United Methodist Choir and served on the United Methodist Church Board until 2011. She was also well known for her vocal solo work in the Detroit Lakes area.

In addition to her music, Bev enjoyed being active with the Detroit Lakes Airport, especially doing the calligraphy for the Eagle Flight Certificates, flying with Duane, the 412 Lakes Antique Car activities, the Saturday morning coffee group at the airport and the Methodist Lunch Bunch.

Survivors include her husband Duane, of Detroit Lakes; children, Dave of Minneapolis, Sue (Dennis) Neitzke of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Robert (Nancy) of Fairfield, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, David, Hilary, Madeleine, Thomas, Margaret and Eli; and a brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Spears of The Villages, Fla.

Preceding her in death was her daughter-in-law; Lori Wething.

Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church choir or the Detroit Lakes Public Library.
