Boats & Bars VIII: Parrot Heads host annual benefit
It’s Hawaiian shirts galore this weekend, as the lakes area’s favorite late summer party tradition continues for an eighth year.
The Lakes Area Parrot Heads are once again preparing to host their annual Habitat for Humanity benefit, Boats & Bars VIII, this Saturday in Detroit Lakes, with a couple of other activities scheduled around the main event as well.
Tickets for the main event are $15 and are available starting at 10 a.m. Saturday inside Zorbaz, or by contacting Parrot Head members from the lakes area.
Sponsors for 2013, who will also host “party stops” throughout the day, include Zorbaz, The Bridge, Marina, Bar and Grill, Holiday Beach Bar, and J&K Marine.
Performing will be Denny Craswell, also known as The Castaway, from 11 a.m. to noon at Zorbaz; Island Time will perform at the sandbar on the lake from noon to 3 p.m.; the Hardwood Groove Trio will perform from 3-4 p.m. at Long Bridge; The Castaway again from 5-6 p.m. at Holiday Inn’s Beach Bar, and Cruise Control, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band from Missouri, will perform at 9 p.m. at Zorbaz.
Another event, this time benefitting Humane Society of the Lakes, takes place on Friday, Aug. 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Zorbaz.
“MaCAWS for PAWS,” as it is called, includes a silent auction and $10 raffle tickets for a chance to win a seven-night stay at Banana Beach in Belize, a seven-night stay at Cabo Villas in Cabo San Lucas, a three-night stay at Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel in St. John of the U.S. Virgin Islands, a $100 Travel Travel of Detroit Lakes gift card or a Park and Fly in Package at the Best Western Plus of Bloomington.
During this event, The Castaway will perform live music and tropical attire is encouraged.
Wrapping up this exotic, fun filled weekend will be a Sunday morning Bloody Mary Bar hosted by Zorbaz at 10 a.m., with Cruize Control performing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Last year the Parrot Heads donated $3,500 to Habitat for Humanity through this fundraiser.
