Body of missing swimmer recovered from Rainy River

Searchers found the body of a swimmer missing in the Rainy River shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Odane Orville White, 27, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, vanished Sunday evening while swimming from the Canadian side of the river. He and a second swimmer attempted to swim out from and back to the public docks in Emo, Ont., a distance of about 200 feet. The other swimmer returned to the docks, but White went under the water.

The Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit found White’s body approximately 35 feet south of the public docks.

Emo is about 20 miles west of International Falls, and the Koochiching Sheriff's Office assisted with the search.
