It was a game the Waubun football coaches have been waiting for all season -- and it couldn't have come at a better time.

The No. 6 Bombers upended No. 3 Nevis Tuesday in double overtime 34-28 after a wild and unpredictable tilt, highlighted by big plays by both teams.

But it was Kellen McArthur's 10-yard touchdown scamper around left end was the last and decisive play to tilt the scales of victory to the Bombers to end the second overtime period.

"Overall, there were a couple of mental errors, but the team played extremely well," said Waubun head coach Jason McCloskey. "This has been coming, we as coaches just have been waiting for this."

Nevis rallied for 20 points in the second quarter to pull a 20-12 halftime lead, while Waubun added a touchdown in the fourth to send the game into overtime.

McArthur finished with three touchdowns on the night, along with 125 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Waubun also had Adam Ladue break the century mark on the ground with 160 yards on 29 attempts and one touchdown.

"We rushed the ball all over their defense, but stalled on some drives," McCloskey said. "The front line -- both offensively and defensively -- did a wonderful job."

Nevis had a chance to win the game with seconds left in the fourth quarter, but a Taylor Chase 22-yard field goal was just hooked left, thus forcing overtime.

Turnovers hurt the Bombers in the 20-point Nevis second quarter, but the defense was able to shutout the Tigers in the second half.

The Bombers will travel to No. 2 Norman County East Saturday at 6 p.m..

NCE defeated Waubun in their Homecoming game after rallying back from a two-touchdown deficit.

"We'll need to control their passing game and stop their dive plays," McCloskey said of the keys to beating NCE. "We'll have to find consistency in our game and our defense will have to play tough."
