TWO HARBORS -- A 7-year-old Twin Cities boy was transported to a Duluth hospital by helicopter today after he fell 20 to 30 feet in the water after slipping on rocks at Gooseberry Falls State Park north of Two Harbors.

The boy's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but he was taken to Duluth by helicopter because of the distance he fell, said Paul Sundberg, manager of the park, which is operated by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The boy's condition was unknown this afternoon.

Sundberg said the boy fell in the lower falls after slipping on rocks above. The Gooseberry River is not running heavy, and the boy fell into shallow water.

Sundberg said this was the 11th fall at the state park so far this year. Park officials tell visitors to stay on the trails, but there are no rules preventing people from climbing on the rocks in and near the water, he said.
