Owning the boards ended up being a key to the Detroit Lakes boys’ basketball team’s 58-51 victory in Bemidji (1-12) Tuesday, as DL collected 38 rebounds, including junior Sam Champa’s game-high 13.

The Lakers held a 31-22 halftime lead and were able to maintain the rest of the way behind guard Jackson Lyngaas’ 14 points and Christian Hedstrom’s 10.

Forward Ben Hokanson also kept the Lumberjack defense honest in the paint with 13 points.

The Lakers (7-4) were not as fortunate Saturday, with a 70-59 loss to visiting Fergus Falls (8-5).

Hedstrom’s 23 points were not enough to combat the Otters’ 41 second half points. Lyngaas added 12 points in the loss, while Hokanson hauled in 11 rebounds.

The Lakers will host Mid-State Conference foe Crosby-Ironton (9-2) Friday, starting at 7:15 p.m.
