Despite a 5-1 loss to the Warriors, which now have outscored their first three opponents by a hefty 25-3 margin, the Lakers (0-3-1) can take some credence they will be a competitive team in the section.

Laker goalie MacKenzie Steele had a strong game with 39 saves, which included Warroad outshooting DL 15-3 in the two-goal second period.

The Warriors (3-0-0) continued their peppering of the net with a 17-10 shot margin in the final period, in which they converted three more goals, after trailing 1-0 through the first intermission.

DL speedy forward Jonathan Hallisey put the Lakers up 1-0 8:13 into the first period off of assists by Casey Paskey and defenseman Dylan Bremseth, while Steele snuffed out all 12 of the Warriors’ shot attempts.

But Warroad regrouped and held the sizable edge in shots, while Jared Bethune put Warroad on the board on a power play opportunity, followed by the go-ahead goal by Kobe Roth just 6:11 later.

Bethune captured the hat trick with back-to-back goals to start the third period, which came just 1:16 apart from each other, while Max Oelkers capped the scoring to push the final tally to 5-1.

Steele had more than several impressive saves, while the Lakers did skate with the highly-touted Warriors throughout the game.

The Lakers’ Tuesday game in Pequot Lakes against Northern Lakes was postponed to a later date and will travel to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Friday for a 7:15 p.m. start.
