Brainerd man faces attempted murder charge in domestic assault case

BRAINERD, Minn. - A 24-year-old Brainerd man was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder after reportedly choking, striking and holding a victim down, Brainerd Police Chief Corky McQuiston said.

Brainerd police were called about 9:45 a.m. to a report of a domestic assault at a residence. A woman, who had fled the scene, reported that she and the suspect live together and he was still at the residence.

The woman reported a long, drawn-out assault in which she was choked, struck and held down by the suspect, police said. She also reported that the suspect had attacked her with a knife, causing a laceration to her hand.

The suspect was arrested without incident and transported to the Crow Wing County Jail.

He was awaiting formal charges of second-degree attempted murder, domestic assault by strangulation and second-degree assault while the case is under review by the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office.
