Breakfast on Farm set May 31 at Rollag
The eighth annual Breakfast on the Farm kicks off Hawley Rodeo Fest Week on Saturday, May 31 from 7 a.m. until noon at the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion (WMSTR) grounds in Rollag.
There is no admission charge for the event. The Hawley Area Lions will be serving a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs, strawberries, milk and coffee for a free will donation that is used to continue their support of various local and regional community needs.
This year's Breakfast features many kid friendly events. The Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull will start with registration at 9 a.m., and the pulling will start at 10 a.m. inside a 36x72-foot building. Kids will also be entertained with rides on the old fashioned merry-go-round, the mini steam train, barrel wagon train, and tractor or horse drawn shuttle wagons.
Farm Safety Just for Kids presenters will also visit with the youngsters about farm safety, while they enjoy their free ice cream cones found at Maggies on Main Street at the WMSTR grounds.
The Farm Animal Zoo will be enjoyed by young and old alike on the century farm. Celebrate Minnesota's 150th birthday by watching horses do the farm work of 150 years ago.
The older folks can visit the various farm commodity groups, farmers who grow organic and homegrown products, information from the new Clay County horticulturist, the operating sawmill, and the antique tractor pulling demonstration.
Entertainment will be provided by local square dancers and Taunya Todd's "Hill Country" band. Other activities will include a milk drinking contest and displays of new and old farm equipment.
Several booths will feature information on upcoming summer events in Hawley, Clay County, and areas around Fargo-Moorhead and Detroit Lakes.
The Hawley Rodeo Association will have registration for free Hawley Rodeo Tickets and local radio stations will also be offering door prizes. You will also be able to purchase advance rodeo ticket at a reduced price, pre-register for Hawley's second 5K walk/run and second Classic Car and Motorcycle Show. By pre-registering, you will save extra costs that will be accessed if you register on the day of event, which is June 7 in Hawley.
Remember there is admission fee for the Breakfast on the Farm at Rollag, and the rides and ice cream cones are free. The only cost for visitors is a free will offering for the huge farm country breakfast on May 31.
