Breast and Ovarian Race is May 11 in DL park
The Simply Pink Truly Teal event is designed to honor and celebrate any woman who has been affected by breast or ovarian cancer and to bring awareness to the local community.
The third annual Breast and Ovarian Cancer Road Race is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Park.
Participants can participate in either the 5k run/walk or the 10k run.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division, and all cancer survivors will be honored. All mothers will be honored as well, as the race is held the day before Mother’s Day.
Registration forms can be found online at www.simplypinktrulyteal.com. Event cost is $25 and must be done in the park. Registration and packet pick-up will be in the City Park on Friday from 4-6:30 p.m. and again Saturday from 7:30-8:30 a.m.
Refreshments will be available after the race.
All proceeds from the race go to the Sanford Cancer’s Embrace program.
Sanford’s Embrace Survivorship Program brings together cancer patients, family members and caregivers to help address the emotional, physical and financial effects of cancer on patients and their families. Embrace will be sending a team to participate in this year’s race. Dr. Shelby Terstriep will say a few words prior to the race start.
This year, Cassie Zacharias will also be an honorary speaker. Cassie has participated in the race the past two years, shortly after last year’s race she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
