Brenna M. Hanson, 16, of Rochert, died Friday, June 30, at her home, after losing her 7-month battle with cancer.

Brenna Marie Hanson was born to Alan and Julie (Charbonneau) Hanson on May 26, 1990 in Robbinsdale, Minn. At the age of 9 months, she moved with her family to Detroit Lakes, where she grew up and attended school. She had just completed her sophomore year at Detroit Lakes High School.

Brenna enjoyed listening to music, playing on the computer, four-wheeling, swimming, cooking, camping, and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered for her big heart, how she cared about others, her courageousness and strength and, most of all, for her beautiful smile.

Brenna is survived by her parents, Alan and Julie Hanson, and a sister, Caitlin Hanson, all of Rochert; grandparents, Dennis and Dolores Charbonneau of Parkers Prairie, Minn.; and great grandparents Irene Verstaete of Minneota, Minn., and Geneva Venzke of Battle Lake. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ray & JoAnn Hanson.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes; there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to Thursday's funeral mass at the church.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is serving the family.
