Brooke honored as DAV County Veterans Service Officer of the Year
Local DAV member and County Veterans Service Officer Lauri Brooke was honored as “Minnesota DAV County Veterans Service Officer of the Year” at the Disabled American Veterans Conference in Duluth.
She was recognized for her dedicated and tireless service to the disabled veterans of Minnesota. Last year the Becker County Veterans Service Office realized over $20 million dollars in benefits paid to the veterans of Becker County.
These benefits include medical care, non-service connected pension, compensation, dental and optical benefits, and burial benefits. During her tenure as service officer, Lauri has added contractors from the Family Assistance Center and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans to the services available to veterans in this county.
She has been instrumental in the establishment of the Yellow Ribbon of the Lakes Network, has facilitated a Tri-County Roundup benefits fair for veterans and their families, lobbied for the continuation of the MN Higher Education Coordinators, and is currently helping to develop a transportation program for veterans in 18 counties in northwest Minnesota.
Lauri has been serving the veterans of Becker County since 2006.
