A five-goal first period buried the Detroit Lakes girls' hockey team early, as Fargo South finished off the Lakers 9-0 Tuesday.
The Bruins were able to control the puck in the Lakers' zone, as DL sophomore goalie Veronica Badurek had 48 saves, after coming in for relief of starter Veronica Roy.
"Credit Fargo South, they have a solid team with some girls that can put the puck in the net," said DL head coach Gretchen Norby. "Our girls came out flat, but played a little better in the second period after allowing five goals in the first."
The Lakers were able to hold Fargo South scoreless in the third period and allowed just 12 shots on goal.
"We are hoping to build off that for Thursday against Pequot Lakes and then a big game against Alexandria Saturday," Norby added.
The Lakers fall to 6-8-0 on the season.
