BTD Manufacturing announces layoffs
Detroit Lakes-based BTD Manufacturing announced a 10 percent reduction of its workforce.
Approximately 20 positions were reduced at the plant in Detroit Lakes, said Myrna Hoekstra, Vice President, Human Resources for BTD Manufacturing.
Less than half of the reductions were in Detroit Lakes.
Production employees in the Otsego plant were notified that their work was being transferred to the Detroit Lakes facility.
The warehouse in Otsego will continue to operate handling products for the metro customers and shipments between the plants.
"We held off as long as we could, but it came to a point that we needed to balance the workforce with customer demand," said BTD President Paul Gintner.
All employees were given a severance package based on years of service.
"Our intention is to grow again once the economy turns around and consumers increase their purchases of our customer's products," Gintner said.
