Bus from DL available starting today for volunteer sandbagging in Moorhead
With the Red River expected to crest in Fargo-Moorhead at near-record levels on Saturday, Detroit Lakes Police Chief Kel Keena is organizing daily buses for volunteers to lay sandbag dikes.
Starting today, a bus will leave at 5 p.m. from the Detroit Lakes Police Department at 106 Holmes Street East. It will return at 11 p.m.
There will be daily buses at the same time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
This weekend, buses will roll twice a day - from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Expect to work about a four-hour shift in wet, muddy conditions, and bring outdoor work clothing including rubber boots, leather gloves and rain gear if needed.
Anderson Bus Company of Frazee is providing the transportation for free, Keena said.
