Business opens its doors -- Disse, Krump start garage door biz in DL area
After nearly a year of planning and preparation, Rick Krump and Kent Disse are opening up the Up Down Door Company.
"We hope to raise the standard of service to the garage door industry in this area," commented Disse.
With a showroom and office to be located at 28774 State Highway 34, the headquarters for the new garage door business will be centered next to a bunch of their product, being just a few yards from SpaceMan Storage units located just two miles east of Detroit Lakes as well.
Disse is lending his business expertise to this new garage door venture. Disse along with his brother, Glenn, own and operate RainMan Irrigation and manage SpaceMan Storage for their father, George.
"We've got a lot of garage doors out here (at SpaceMan Storage)," said Disse, "When Rick approached me with the idea (to start Up Down Doors), I thought it was great as we could bring a high level of service and customer care to just such a business."
Up Down Door will feature garage doors built by North Central Door Company of Bemidji and Midland Doors of Fargo. Both offer a full line of residential and commercial doors, openers and accessories, notes Disse.
Residents may recognize Disse and Krump as volunteers of the Detroit Lakes Fire Department. Krump recently retired from the department after 23 years, and Disse has nearly 20 years experience on the department.
"I needed to get back into business for myself." commented Krump. "With my retirement from the fire department, it was the perfect time."
Krump has spent the last four years working in the plumbing and heating industry and also has over 30 years experience in the service industry as he and his wife, Nancy, are the previous owner/operators of Savoie Cleaners and Laundry in Detroit Lakes.
Up Down Doors will offer a full line of services for any brand garage doors including installation, 24-hour, 7-day-a-week emergency service, door tune-ups and service contracts.
"We can fix, replace or upgrade any garage door, garage door part, opener, opener remote... anything our customers want," said Krump.
"We want to leave knowing that they are so happy with us that they will call us back for any of your garage door needs."
Kent added, "And of course free estimates will be offered. Our goal is 100 percent customer satisfaction."
As for their company's name, Disse noted he has already fielded quite a few questions on its origin.
"People ask about the name all the time and why we didn't name it 'DoorMan,'" commented Disse. "I always tell them, 'Up Down seemed like the direction to go.'"
Up Down Doors is located just east of Detroit Lakes at 28774 State Highway 34.
