North Country Trail
The Laurentian Lakes Chapter meets Wednesdays at 9 a.m. for building the North Country National Scenic Trail. Volunteers are working between Clearwater Co. 39 and State Hwy. 113, clearing brush and windfalls in preparation for tread way construction in May. Miss Northwest info
An informational session for candidates interested in participating in the July 11 Miss Northwest Pageant is at 5 p.m. in the conference room of the Historic Holmes Theatre. If you have questions or would like more information, contact Cindy Moore at 218-334-2321.

You are invited to continue to make a difference in Haiti for the 2008-09 school year. A TeacHaiti annual meeting is from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center Ballroom. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for two. Evening will include appetizers from Speak Easy, an update from Miquette Deni and a silent auction with original handcrafted items from Haiti. Street Faire at the Lakes
The eighth annual Street Faire at the Lakes begins in downtown Detroit Lakes, with a variety of new entertainment and artists in addition to returning local favorites. Today's entertainment lineup includes Bettina Villamil at 10 a.m.; Crashing Down at noon; the Fat Cats at 2 p.m.; Lehto & Wright (Celtic music) at 4 p.m.; stringman Paul Imholte, all day long; and Fuse will be the featured performer at the Eagles' street dance, which begins at 8 p.m. Kids' entertainment will take place throughout the weekend, with the Wonder Weavers (storytelling and arts and crafts) and Barrel Train Rides. And be sure to check out some of the unique artists that flock to the Faire, and graze through the options in the food court.

And be sure to check out some of the unique artists that flock to the Faire, and graze through the options in the food court.
Miss Minnesota send-off
A send-off party for Miss Frazee Katie Dretsch, Miss Northwest Mackenzie Ross and Miss Teen Minnesota contestant Alyssa Mayfield begins at 4 p.m. in the Frazee Community Center. Katie and Mackenzie will be competing in the Miss Minnesota Pageant and Alyssa will be competing in the Miss Teen Minnesota Pageant in June.
Itasca open house
Itasca State Park will have an open house in honor of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial, featuring a "Picnic in the Park" with live music throughout the day, a log-sawing contest, bison chip chucking contest, loon calling contest, pow wow dancers, Taste of Minnesota food samples and family fun activities including a variety of games. There will be free park admission throughout the open house, which runs from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Tuesdays in the Park
The Tuesdays in the Park summer concert series returns to the Detroit Lakes City Park Bandshell with an appearance by the Lakes Area Community Concert Band. There will be free, live music starting at 7 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved from the bandshell to the DL Pavilion.
