Callaway man accused of assault with baseball bat
Jason Lee Ruchti, 38, of 15 Wisconsin Street, Callaway, has been charged in Becker County District Court with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault, substantial bodily harm, both felonies.
On May 6 at about 8:18 a.m. Detroit Lakes police officers received a call about a possible assault at a Detroit Lakes residence.
When an officer arrived, he saw a large amount of blood outside the building's door and a trail of blood leading to an apartment.
The officer spoke to the renter, who was covered with blood from a gash to the forehead. Investigation allegedly revealed that Ruchti had come to his apartment earlier that morning and begin hitting him with the baseball bat when he opened the door, striking him on the head, arms and legs, according to court records.
He was transported to St. Mary's Innovis Health for treatment. Several lacerations to the head were substantial and required stitches and staples to close.
He appeared Monday before District Judge Michael Kirk, who set bail at $20,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim.
