Callaway man accused of threatening family
A Callaway man will appear Tuesday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of terroristic threats.
Matthew John Rootham, 27, of 28523 N. Buffalo Lake Road, Callaway, is accused of making threats to a Becker County homeowner and his family outside the man's residence on Oct. 23.
According to the criminal complaint, Rootham, who appeared intoxicated, was reportedly at the residence demanding payment for some sheetrock work he had done there. Rootham allegedly threatened to smash the windows, burn the house down and kill everyone inside.
Witnesses said that Rootham appeared to be visibly upset, angry and shaking. When he was questioned later, Rootham said he had been arguing with the man and swearing, but had not made threats. He allegedly said he was going through a "rough time" and needed the money.
Rootham has been released on $5,000 bond pending Tuesday's omnibus hearing.
