'A Style Show'

The Detroit Lakes Christian Women's Club hosts "A Style Show" from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the ClubHouse Hotel. Lunch cost is $8.50.

Anat Fort concert

Israeli jazz musician and composer Anat Fort performs with her musical trio, including Gary Wang on bass and Roland Schneider on drums, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wadena Memorial Auditorium. Vietnam Wall program

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall, which arrived at the New York Mills VFW on Wednesday, will be officially opened to the public with an 11 a.m. ceremony featuring guest speaker Rev. Ryan Stout of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, readings and live music. There will be a second program at 4:30 p.m., featuring guest speaker Mark Murdock, Dist. 10B State Representative, and at 7 p.m., the Wadena Area Community Band will perform a free concert.

Vietnam Wall program

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall, an 80 percent replica of the wall in Washington, D.C., will be at the New York Mills VFW through Sunday, Sept. 13. 'Safe Ways to Fail'

M-State's Business & Entrepreneurial Services continues its Speaker Series with Mike Marcil and his message entitled "Safe Ways to Fail" from 9 to 10 a.m. on the campus of M-State, Detroit Lakes, in the Conference Room (C101). In three years, Mike Marcil's company's real estate assets under his management expanded from $2 million to $100 million. There is no cost or registration required for this event.

Williams & Ree

The self-proclaimed "Indian and the White Guy" -- also known as Bruce Williams and Terry Ree -- bring their hilarious act to Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino on Friday, Sept. 11, for two shows at 7 and 9 p.m. Filled with funny zings and crazy songs, their one-of-a-kind comedy act has been packing houses from Niagara Falls to Las Vegas for three decades. Beardsley spaghetti feed

Local legend and world-renowned runner Dick Beardsley, along with special guest Bart Yasso -- U.S. National Biathlon Long Course champion and winner of the Smoky Mountain Marathon -- will speak at a spaghetti fund-raiser hosted by the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center. Serving begins at 6 p.m., with the presentation by Beardsley and Yasso to follow dinner. The meal is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 4-12, and free to younger children.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Beardsley Run

Local legend and world-renowned runner Dick Beardsley will once again take to the track in his Half Marathon & 5K Run on Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration opens at 7 a.m. in the DL Pavilion. Runners will take off at 8:30 a.m. for the half marathon and two-person relay race. The Kids' Run will begin at 11 a.m. and offers those 12 and under a chance to run with Beardsley himself.

Community Celebration

The fifth annual United Way Community Celebration gets underway at 4:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. The Community Celebration will have a free meal for all who attend, as well as live entertainment throughout the evening, including music, piñatas, blow-up games, facepainting and tattoos for the kids. The agencies that receive funding from the United Way will also be showcased throughout the celebration, which concludes at 6:30 p.m.
