Candidate forum to focus on child poverty in Minnesota
The Congregational United Church of Christ in Detroit Lakes, First Congregational United Church of Christ in Moorhead, The Joint Religious Legislative Coalition and the Children's Defense Fund of Minnesota are co-presenting a local Candidate forum on child poverty in Minnesota.
The forum will be held at the Hawley United Methodist Church, located at 1031 Main Street in Hawley, on Monday, Oct. 8, from 7-9 p.m.
The forum will focus on the economic security of families with children, particularly how state policy affects communities affected by poverty. Decreasing poverty among children in Minnesota is the goal.
What is the role of government in meeting a family's basic needs of housing, childcare, jobs and education? How do our values inform our response?
Presentations will be given on the status of child poverty in Minnesota as well as in the counties and cities within Senate District 4.
Candidates will respond to questions regarding these significant issues, including questions asked by members of the audience.
Everyone is invited to attend and participate in this important conversation.
