Car crash in Alexandria sends one to the hospital

ALEXANDRIA - A two-vehicle crash near Doolittle's restaurant in Alexandria on Thursday morning sent one person to the hospital.

The crash took place shortly after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 29 South and Dakota Street.

The first vehicle, a 1996 Ford pickup driven by Vern Maanum, 81, of Glenwood, was traveling southbound on Highway 29. The driver had made a left turn heading eastbound onto Dakota Street, according to the police report.

The second vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Silverado, which was pulling an enclosed trailer, was traveling northbound on Highway 29. The driver was Timothy Lang, 23, of Alexandria.

The crash, noted the police report, occurred in the northbound lane of Highway 29.

Lang reported possible injuries, but was not transported to the hospital, according to the report.

Maanum, who had possible head injuries, was transported to Douglas County Hospital via North Ambulance.

Assisting the Alexandria Police Department at the scene were the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
