Caregiver September retreat to include relaxation sessions
The fall caregiver retreat is going to be an interesting and fun one.
Scheduled for Sept. 26, caregivers can plan on a day packed with relaxing times and some pampering.
"It's kind of like vacation bible school with lots of activities and rotating," said Joy Crouch, of Hospice of the Red River Valley and a member of the Becker County Caregiver Support Team.
The day begins at 9 a.m. in the Pavilion with registration and refreshments. Then from 9:30 a.m. to noon, participants can enjoy manicures, some stress-releasing exercises, learning guided imagery for relaxing yourself mentally in stressful situations, nail painting, cooking for one or two and more activities.
"It's more low-key, relaxing and just taking care of you," Crouch said about the day.
From noon until 1 p.m., caregivers will be served a fall-type dinner with sandwiches from Quiznos, soup and pumpkin bars. Also, Vicki Marthaler and Kim Schnitzer will provide musical entertainment.
From 1 to 3 p.m., caregivers can enjoy games or possibly pontoon rides, if the weather cooperates.
Team member Judy Peterson said the day reflects what caregivers wrote in evaluations at the spring retreat of what they would like to see at a fall retreat.
The purpose of the caregivers' retreat is to provide six hours away from the constant care caregivers provide. Participants are encouraged to come the entire day or just half a day.
About 60 caregivers participate at each retreat, and the support team is looking forward to topping that number this year.
The program is supported through donations from community businesses, organizations and churches.
The day is free to caregivers, but they are asked to RSVP by Sept. 20. There will be respite care available for those needing it. RSVP for respite care by Sept. 15.
