Carrie A. Cartwright, 74, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes.
A private family service will be held. Interment will take place in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Shell Lake Township.
Carrie Ann was born to Magnus and Agnes (French) Nelson on April 22, 1938 near Shell Lake Township. As a young girl she attended country school at District 45.
In 1956, Carrie was united in marriage to James Cartwright in Detroit Lakes. They lived by Leonard, N.D., as both Carrie and James were employed by a local farmer. They later moved back to Detroit Lakes and started a wood delivery business. Working together, they cut and delivered cords of wood to local residents all throughout the lakes area.
Carrie loved living in the country. She enjoyed going for walks, reading her magazines, watching a good Western on television, baking and going for car rides through Tamarac Refuge during the fall season. She also enjoyed tending to her small goat and chicken farm. Her baked bread, stew and bean soup were always a family favorite.
Surviving Carrie are her children, Vernon (Irene) Cartwright of Audubon, Dora (David) Borah of Winger, Nora (Clark) Sutherland of Mahnomen, Lora (David) Bergstrom of Rochert, LeaAnn Cartwright of Bemidji and James Cartwright of Detroit Lakes.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as sisters, Maudie Maves of Frazee, Mary Retz of Detroit Lakes, Alice Nelson of Oklahoma and Elna Nelson of Wilmar; and brothers, Duane (Judy) Nelson of Osage and Manley (Betty) Nelson of Henning.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband James (1985); son, Virgil; daughter, Rose Marie; and infant son, Victor.
