Celebrate Valentine's weekend with a little dinner and dancing
Two Valentine's weekend events will take area residents in both directions of Highway 10 with dinner, dancing and socializing.
The Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee and the Lake Park Lions will host two separate events Saturday, Feb. 12.
A candlelit "Valentine Supper" will bring couples and families to the Frazee church starting at 5:30 p.m. with social hour followed by the meal at 6 p.m.
Pat Hausmann, secretary of the church, said the annual event has been an opportunity to raise money for the National Youth Gathering that's held every three years.
The 2013 trip will be in San Antonio, Texas, and the 15 local students who already signed up will help out at the Valentine Supper.
The students will join thousands of other Lutheran Church Missouri Synod members on the trip, she said, and all proceeds from the supper will help with the trip's cost.
The youth will have plenty of opportunities to get inspired and "grow in their faith," Hausmann said.
The Valentine Supper costs $10 per person. In addition to ticket proceeds, there will be live and silent auctions with items donated by various businesses and church members.
The menu will give guests an option of top sirloin steak or chicken, accompanied by salads, baked potatoes, vegetables, rolls, dessert and beverages.
"It's been very successful, people really have a good time," Hausmann said. "It's candlelit and it's decorated for the holiday."
All community members are invited, including non-church members. There will also be free babysitting. Tickets may be picked up at the church office by Monday, Feb. 7.
The Lake Park Lions Club and American Legion Club will host a dinner and dance at the Legion starting at 6 p.m. with social hour.
For the third year, the dinner and dance will raise money to donate to local nonprofits as well as the scholarship fund.
A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Lake Park-Audubon High School student.
Several other programs will benefit from the fundraiser, including Leader Dog, youth exchange and outreach, post prom and the Lake Park Community Education.
"We're nonprofit, we give everything that we make," said Janet Ashmore, one of the organizers of the event. "Last year, we raised a little over $500, hopefully we do the same or better this year."
The evening will feature a dinner menu with the choice of chicken cordon bleu or breaded pork chops, along with potatoes, vegetables, bread, salads, dessert and coffee.
Entertainers of the evening, who usually draw a big crowd, will be Lewy Ronken and Barry Reierson. They will get the dance started at 8 p.m.
"It should be a lot of fun, the band is really good," Ashmore said.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 a person or $37.50 a couple from any Lions or American Legion member or by calling Ashmore at 218-238-5369.
Tickets will also be sold at the door.
