CEP to celebrate 40 years on Tuesday
Rural Minnesota CEP is celebrating 40 years with cake, tours and a brief presentation.
Located on Roosevelt Avenue, just on the north side of the underpass, the facility has been housed there for 20 years. Rural Minnesota CEP serves 19 counties in North Central and West Central Minnesota.
"CEP has a lot of different agencies people can come in and take advantage of," Arlyce Cucich said.
Some of the many programs CEP offers include job search, resume building, mock interviews, use of computers, career exploration and many more.
CEP also houses a veterans representative, department of rehab, services for the blind, and sublets space to Freedom Resources, county program for children and mental resources.
"Federal programs have changed and we now have more county contracts," Huldy Sannes said.
CEP offers programs for adults and youth. High schoolers especially are encouraged to take advantage of CEP's program similar to job showing where they can go into the private sector and find out about different careers.
"It opens the door to the entire public," Sandy Torgusson said of all the programs.
CEP isn't just for job seekers either. Employers can post job opening online through CEP to search out employees.
"I would encourage employers to come as well to see what we can do for them as well," Cucich said of the open house.
Not just to celebrate, the purpose of the open house is to get "the public aware of what's available," Torgusson said.
They are not handing out jobs, but help with the process, Cucich pointed out.
"It's like we're teaching them to fish," Sannes added.
The open house will feature a short award presentation for the Senior American program. The recipient went through CEP and found a job. The state is honoring her for her efforts.
Director Dan Wenner will give a short presentation, and staff will be out to meet people and give tours of the facility. Demonstrations will be given in the resource room.
The open house is Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 801 Roosevelt Ave.
