Chamber offers shuttle service
DETROIT LAKES - Those going to WE Fest can choose not to fight traffic thanks to the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce's shuttle bus service.
For 25 years, the Chamber has done the driving, and for a modest fee as well.
"(It was started) partly because WE Fest didn't have the manpower they have now," said Chamber office manager Jean Erickson.
Erickson added that running shuttles back-and-forth between the city and Soo Pass Ranch raises funds for the Chamber.
At $6 dollars for a one-day pass, it saves locals who aren't camping out from shelling out the $60 fee for a camping pass.
Shuttles run constantly throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m. the next morning.
The shuttles run in a loop between the Becker County Fairgrounds, Norby's Department Store on Washington Avenue, and the WE Fest west gate, and then back to the fairgrounds.
Riders shouldn't have to wait long for a bus either.
"As the traffic picks up, the bus numbers increase as well," Erickson said.
Anderson Bus in Frazee provides the busses for the Chamber, and Erickson said it runs smoothly.
Besides a one-day pass, a three-day unlimited pass runs $14.
Shuttle prices have gone up slightly this year because of the higher fuel costs.
"If fuel (cost) goes up, they do raise the ticket prices," Erickson said.
Campground pass holders can catch a ride into town for free between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day.
Passes can be purchased at the fairgrounds, Norby's and the WE Fest information booth.
Parking is available for free at the fairgrounds and the city parking lot behind Norby's.
