Charges filed in fatal Fergus Falls shooting
A manslaughter charge was filed Tuesday in Otter Tail County District Court in connection with the fatal shooting Friday of a Fergus Falls, Minn., woman.
Devin Edward Gray, 24, was charged with second-degree manslaughter and failing to render assistance, both felonies.
Amanda Kemmer, 29, of Fergus Falls, died after she was shot in the chest with a gun that Gray brought to a party at a mobile home in Fergus Falls on Friday.
According to the court complaint:
Police believe that Gray brought a .25-caliber handgun to the party, pointing it at his head at one point and indicating that he was thinking of committing suicide.
Kemmer took the gun from him, but Gray said he later convinced her to give it back to him. As she was removing it from a pocket and returning it, the gun fired, Gray told police.
After asking if Kemmer was OK, Gray "freaked out" and left the party, he later told investigators.
An autopsy by the Ramsey County medical examiner confirmed that a close-range gunshot caused Kemmer's death. A bullet went through her right hand and entered her right breast, causing extensive internal bleeding, according to the autopsy report.
Gray is being held in the jail in Otter Tail County without bail, pending his initial court appearance.
