Charles B. "Charlie" Odegaard, 84, of Lake Park, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at St. Mary's Innovis Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
Charles was born to Herman and Mattie (Christensen) Odegaard on March 8, 1924 in Lake Park. He grew up near Lake Park and attended rural country school. After completing his education he began working on the family farm and at the Children's Home in Lake Park.
Charles married Patricia Bryngelson on April 29, 1951 in Detroit Lakes. Charles drove truck for Nash Finch, Ulven Gravel, and later for the State Highway Department until his retirement. Patricia died Aug. 26, 2007.
Charles enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved family get-togethers, visiting and having coffee.
Surviving Charles are his son, Charles (Tammy) Odegaard of Lake Park; three daughters, Sheri (Steve) Hirchert of Glyndon, Minn., Sandi (Wayne) Zachariason of Fosston, Minn., and Becky (Dave Schossow) Odegaard of Detroit Lakes; one brother, Laverne (Arlene) Odegaard of Colton, S.D.; two sisters, Lee Hokanson of Fargo and Anise Selle of Brownton, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service, on Friday, Dec. 5, at Wright Funeral Home in Lake Park.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Strandvik Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park, with interment following at Strandvik Lutheran Church Cemetery.
