Class 2A state boys' meet ruled 18-hole tournament after rain prematurely ends it
The Class 2A state boys' golf meet which was being held at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan, was ended prematurely due to severe thunderstorms in the region.
The tournament was ruled an 18-hole one, with the scores being used from yesterday's first-round action. The majority of the golfers did make it through their first nine holes Thursday, before storms rolled in.
The Laker boys' team will finish in fifth place with a score of 315. Orono will win its third-consecutive state title -- with its first being in 2008 when they were co-champions with Detroit Lakes.
Freshman Karter Smith finished as DL's lowman with a five-over par 77 and in 27th place. Other Laker scores included: Austin Rusness with a 79 (39th), Michael Herzog at 79 (39th), Connor Hedstrom and Tanner Lane each with an 80 (47th) and Nate Ginnaty with an 86 (76).
