Cleaning up the lake
On April 16, the Detroit Lakes Chapter of the Minnesota Darkhouse Spearing and Angling Association did its annual cleanup on Little Detroit Lake.
Allen Bentler, John Knopf, Marty Kumpula and Jon Kumpula started at 5:30 p.m. and ended the clean-up at 9.
The club has been doing their annual garbage cleanup for about 20 years. Most of the garbage is items left by ice fishermen over the winter. There is a small window when items can be recovered. The weather has to be warm enough so the snow does not hide the items and they are not frozen into the ice and yet still safe enough for the crew to walk out onto the ice.
