College Foundation awards $12,000 in scholarships
The Detroit Lakes Area College Foundation (DLACF) has awarded $12,000 in scholarships to 12 students who will attend Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State)-Detroit Lakes for the 2010-11 academic year.
These students were recognized on March 26 at DLACF's "Night in New York" award ceremony and fundraiser.
Winners are Lauren Rex, Vining; Maggie Zirbes, Silver Lake; Kayla Quittschreiber, Frazee; Ryan, Rikhus, Hawley; Rebecca Benhardus, Detroit Lakes; Rena Buhr, Detroit Lakes; Stacey Gravelle, Detroit Lakes; Kari Hutchinson, Detroit Lakes; Sam Lage, Audubon; Austin Lanoue, Waubun; Steven Jerde, Detroit Lakes.
Scholarships are granted to outstanding applicants who demonstrate excellence in community activities, work, volunteer experience and academic achievement. Recipients chosen were from a variety of programs at M State-DL. Scholarship categories students applied for were: first year full-time, second year full-time, part-time, veteran and business entrepreneurship. These scholarship awards will be used to cover tuition and book expenses.
DLACF is organized on behalf of M State-Detroit Lakes and has been in operation since 1981 developing programs for the Detroit Lakes campus. The mission is to raise, manage and distribute funds to further educational goals for the benefit of M State-Detroit Lakes. More than $218,000 in scholarships have been awarded to 521 students.
