Comedy opens Thursday at Long Lake Theatre

OLE AND LENA'S FAMILY gathers for a traditional Scandinavian Christmas meal in "Ole & Lena's Christmas Carol," which opens Thursday, Dec. 3 at Long Lake Theatre in Hubbard. Uff da! Add a little lutefisk here, some Christmas tinsel there, and what do you get? Why, "Ole & Lena's Christmas Carol," of course.

The Up Nort' tale opens Dec. 3 at Long Lake Theater in Hubbard and runs Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 13.

Times are tough for the Scandinavian duo in this light-hearted, family comedy. Ole works for a crummy boss and da wife, Lena, is sorta mad at him - again.

Set in northern Minnesota, the humorous tale is loosely based on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." But a few plot surprises await audiences.

David Overly of Park Rapids portrays Ole, who is a likable, good-natured family man with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Overly most recently starred as Tevye in the Northern Light Opera Company's production of "Fiddler on the Roof."

Lynne Presson, Menahga, a veteran actor on the Long Lake Theater stage, depicts the hard-working, ever-stoic Lena.

In addition, the cast features local talent Caitlin Brumbaugh, Mark Fickes, Megan and Thomas Geraedts, Aidan McComas, Kaylee Miller, Jenna Polley, Mary Thielen, Jeremiah Arno Tinker and Arlene Valentin.

The show is co-directed by Tami Hensel and Bruce Bolton, who also teamed up last year to direct "A Christmas Story."

Performances of "Ole & Lena's Christmas Carol" are Thursdays-Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday at 3 p.m.

Ticket holders to the opening night performances are invited to a gala following the show, hosted by Jewel of the Northwoods Bed & Breakfast.
