Como: thanks for support and encouragement
First, I would like to thank the people of our school district who have supported and encouraged me to run for the school board. These are the voters and taxpayers of the district. I want to inform you that I have completed the application process for consideration of the current school board opening.
Secondly, I would like to remind a few of our school board members that this is an elected position, not a position that gets to be handpicked by a couple of people to fit their agenda. I'm not sure why a few people think they are more qualified to pick a board member over the voters and taxpayers of the district? This is a democracy not a dictatorship.
Thirdly, why does the superintendent think he has a say in what the board should or should not do and how they do things? Has he forgotten that he works for the board and not the other way around? And the board seems to have forgotten who they work for: the students, voters and taxpayers of our district.
For those who have criticized me for not attending any school board meetings:
First, it's not a requirement to attend the meetings to run for the position. The only requirements to run for the position of board member are to live in the school district, be 21 years of age and be an eligible voter.
Secondly, and this is one that many of the taxpayers have told me, "why go to a meeting when you are not allowed to speak or if you are allowed to speak, and the chairperson doesn't like you or what you have to say, they threaten to have you removed." What purpose does going to a meeting serve in those circumstances?
I know some would answer this with, "learning how it all works." Well, I have heard how it works and so have the voters of the district. And guess what, we don't like how it works here. That is the reasons so many of the voters are upset about this board. This is also why I acquired the fourth largest amount of votes in the election and have now put in an application.
Thank you again for all your encouragement and support.
