Ricky Skaggs immersed himself in music at a young age, with his first TV appearance at age seven alongside Flatt & Scruggs. By 1971, he was brought into the professional music world by the Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys, playing with friend and late country music star, Keith Whitley.
In 1981, Skaggs released his major label debut, “Waitin’ for the Sun to Shine,” and made it to the top of the country charts where he stayed for most of the 1980s. He has since produced a grand total of 21 albums, which have resulted in 14 Grammy Awards and a platinum album, “Highways and Heartaches.”
Skaggs’ career took flight after his first two solo albums, and in 1982, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. His music has allowed him to collaborate with a number of well-known musicians, including Johnny Cash, Jesse Winchester and Dolly Parton.
When his record contract was coming to an end 1997, Skaggs established his own record label, Skaggs Family Records. The label’s first release, “Bluegrass Rules!” broke sales records in the bluegrass genre.
Since then, Skaggs has continued to produce award-winning music and perform for thousands of fans across the nation.
