County commission, city council approve runway maintenance
The Becker County Board held a special meeting Tuesday morning, to approve a resolution related to maintenance of the current runway at the Detroit Lakes Municipal Airport.
The resolution was also approved by the Detroit Lakes City Council in special session that afternoon.
According to County Administrator Brian Berg, the special meeting was required because the resolution had to be approved no later than Friday, Aug. 10, and the commissioners' next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 14.
The grant agreement obligates the Federal Aviation Administration to pay 95 percent of the cost for the project to "rejuvenate the airport's main runway with a seal coat, and to provide some additional funding for completion of the Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed runway expansion project."
According to the terms of the agreement, "the maximum obligation of the United States, payable under this offer, shall be $94,244 for airport development... and $71,250 for planning."
The estimated cost of the two-part project is $174,200, and the FAA's share would thus be $165,500. The remaining $8,700 will be funded by the airport.
