Couple identified in apparent murder-suicide

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - Rosemount police have identified two people found dead last week in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.

Steven Lee Vasey Jr., 32, and Melissa Vasey, 31, were found dead shortly before 6 p.m. Oct. 7 in their apartment by Rosemount police, who checked on the couple at the request of a family member.

Police Chief Eric Werner said he believes the two died as a result of a murder-suicide. Results from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office indicate that Steven Vasey suffered multiple gunshot wounds and Melissa Vasey suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There were no indications of a struggle. The couple did not have children.

Werner said police had not been called to the residence before Oct. 7.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the case.
