Court appearance scam emails reported in Minnesota

Email

Some Minnesota court offices report hearing from the public that they received emails telling them they must appear in court.

Court spokesman John Kostouros said that several counties, especially Washington, have reported people receiving emails with the title "Notice to Appear" that ask recipients to open an attachment. He said that the attachments may contain a virus or other malware that could affect a computer.

The courts do not email notices to appear or most other legal documents.

The scam is circulating nationally.

People with questions should contact their local district court offices, Kostouros said.
